Microneedling in Portland, Oregon

Non-Surgical Treatment For Scars, Wrinkles & Sun Damage

Microneedling is a cosmetic dermatology procedure to treat/reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, scars and sun damage on the skin. We like it because it’s effective while also being far less invasive than harsh chemical peels, damaging lasers or invasive injections. Microneedling works by creating a microscopic lattice of perforations in the skin that stimulate the body’s natural release of collagen and elastin in the skin. The microscopic perforations also stimulate the body’s healing response and break up scar tissue while not causing further harm. Nanoneedling is a subset of microneedling that is designed specifically for the extra-sensitive skin under the eyes or around the lips. Nanoneedling is preferable for these extra-sensitive areas because the even finer hairlike points stay in the outermost layer, the epidermis. By repeatedly stimulating the body’s healing response while also releasing beneficial collagen and elastin, microneedling improves skin’s look and feel in a safe, effective way.

Since Both Dr. Vy Simeles and myself (Dr. Danielle Lockwood) are both licensed acupuncturists in addition to being primary care docs, we’re both uniquely qualified to perform microneedling in keeping with all of the best techniques and practices of Chinese Medicine. Treatment usually consists of 4-6 treatments and the results usually last about 4-6 years without any follow-up necessary.

The concept of microneedling dates back thousands of years, when it was used by Chinese royalty, and the emperor himself, to maintain youthful, healthy-looking skin. If you found this article helpful, Book an appointment with us to start your healing journey. My name is Dr. Jonathan Shaffer, and I am a graduate of the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon and licensed doctor of naturopathic medicine. I have additional training in Applied Kinesiology and Neuro-Emotional Technique as well as direct instruction from Dr Danielle Lockwood to treat chronic and complex cases. I am also receiving instruction in Ayurvedic medicine, and continue to expand my knowledge in this modality. I use these various lenses to create a comprehensive picture of any disease or disorganization in the body.

I work within the scope of practice in Oregon with full prescriptive rights. I am happy to manage prescriptions and understand their inherent value, but tend to lean more heavily on other modes of treatment. I use homeopathy, botanicals, muscle testing, and body manipulations to address most concerns. I treat patients with attention disorders, spectrum disorders, brain injury, autoimmune disorders, neuropsychiatric disorders, and gastrointestinal disorders. I especially focus on complex cases, specifically pediatric mental health/chronic conditions, and men’s health at any age. No matter who I am working with, reinstating a balance is my core focus.

I currently live and practice in Portland, Oregon. I love learning, helping people and exploring the outdoors.
