Microneedling is a cosmetic dermatology procedure to treat/reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, scars and sun damage on the skin. We like it because it’s effective while also being far less invasive than harsh chemical peels, damaging lasers or invasive injections. Microneedling works by creating a microscopic lattice of perforations in the skin that stimulate the body’s natural release of collagen and elastin in the skin. The microscopic perforations also stimulate the body’s healing response and break up scar tissue while not causing further harm. Nanoneedling is a subset of microneedling that is designed specifically for the extra-sensitive skin under the eyes or around the lips. Nanoneedling is preferable for these extra-sensitive areas because the even finer hairlike points stay in the outermost layer, the epidermis. By repeatedly stimulating the body’s healing response while also releasing beneficial collagen and elastin, microneedling improves skin’s look and feel in a safe, effective way.
